About me…
This is me – Eric Woollard-White. This Blog is a spare time passion project, but I have some big ideas as to how Home Zero Home could develop and grow and hopefully make a big difference to encouraging people to live a greener life. As for me and my green credentials, they could be (and hopefully are getting) better. You could say, I arrived at the party a little late but I’m trying to make up for lost time.
In my day job, I work with the entrepreneur and television business personality Peter Jones (BBC “Dragons’ Den”). I’ve worked with Peter for 10 years and it’s a job I relish and enjoy enormously. He is very inspirational to work with and it is one of those amazing working environments where literally no two days are the same.
I am currently the Acting CEO of the National Enterprise Academy and in this role I have been helping Peter achieve a long-held dream to create a new learning institution and qualification that will help create the next generation of entrepreneurs. Previously, I have worked for Peter in a range of public relations, communications, marketing and senior management/executive roles, and I still am involved in all sorts of activities across what is now a £200 million portfolio of companies.
Home Zero Home is a project comprising several key activities, of which this Blog is one element. I am currently working on the other elements of the project and will hopefully report back soon on how it will develop and grow. So watch this space! My interest in green things has really come about since I met my wife, Hilary.
Hilary is from Canada, a beautiful vast country which has many advanced, interesting activities underway in terms of tackling climate change – and it is discovering how far ahead other countries are compared to the UK which has fueled my interest in sharing best practice globally, not just locally.
Hilary’s Uncle, Larry Grozell, who is an entrepreneur and passionate about construction technologies, building techniques and materials that drasticlly limit the impact on the environment, has also been a key driver behind the idea for Home Zero Home. He has a personal goal to build a house “totally off the grid” (although his recent property developments are probably not far from achieving this already). It was a conversation with him about this that started my interest in zero carbon/zero energy buildings.
